It
started in the fourth grade, two boys sitting on stage performing in
the annual talent show. Neither song nor dance were presented. Rather,
they sat hunched over a table under the bright lights using only a
volume of the World Book Encyclopedia as their guide.
The audience remained still, stunned and
silent with an occasional shriek, followed by giggles. For many, it was
the first time they saw organs, a frog’s inside organs; liver, heart,
lungs, etc. The boys were dissecting a frog on stage. Sadly, although
original in their choice of talent they failed to win that afternoon.
For one it began a lifelong joy of sharing the life science world.
While undergoing his formal scientific training at Vanderbilt University, he investigated nutritional influences on gene regulation. His research demonstrated that both calcium and sulfur-containing amino acids impact gene regulation. Important results revealing biochemical processes promoting cancer and heart disease. Moving away from bench work, he became a medical liaison supporting key opinion leaders in therapeutic areas of menopause, osteoporosis and then mood disorders for a pharmaceutical company.
During his tenure as a pharmaceutical medical liaison covering the entire Southeast, he discovered that physicians were not always current. Thus, their patients were not always receiving accurate, up-to-date and unbiased health information. To assist in this information vacuum, he was granted the unusual title, Education Affiliate of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. After moving into therapeutic area of neuroscience, he developed a mathematical dosing algorithm to assist physicians in selecting psychotropic agents, thereby boosting the efficacy/adverse event ratio. Soon thereafter serving as a board member on several local disease-focused non-profits, he become frustrated that too much attention was focused upon cure, instead of prevention.
Prompted to change this paradigm, he founded Health Information
Providers, Inc., twenty-five years after his first public dissecting experience on stage. The mission of which was to return health to healthcare. The company's primary goal is to empower and improve a person's
quality of life through development and delivery of health and wellness
resources. A secondary focus to
identify specific therapeutic biopharmaceuticals that mimic lifestyle-responsive targets of these conditions.
He routinely provides keynote and workshop presentations motivating non-scientist health professionals to think outside the box. Past audiences include: Women in Government, Genentech, Millipore, InVitrogen, Biogen Idec, Georgia Nutrition Council and Eat Smart New York.
He now brings this same evidence-based information directly to the general public in fun and easy-to-understand workshops.
